The wide-angle lens gives a huge 100 degree field of view, almost double what the standard lens offer. This means that the animal will almost always be in shot when the camera triggers, and reduces ‘blank captures’; i.e. when the camera has triggered too late and the animal has moved out of the field of view.
Its also great if you want to monitor as large an area as possible, such as a large garden, and if you are monitoring for security purposes.
It does have a drawback however; notice the blur around the edges of the picture. Although the centre is clear and crisp, there is a clear blur around the outside, and it is slightly under-exposed. This is due to the size of the lens.

A nicely made waterproof trail camera have found the pictures of excellent quality and that it is better to remove SD card and view this on computer since it does not drain the batteries viewing the images.
I had wanted something like this for a while, but prompted by a possible rats nest in the garage, I finally bought one. I set this up, with the default settings, and placed in position. By the morning I had a nice selection of video clips of several rats. The quality of the pictures was excellent, and very few false triggers. The following day I had it pointing at my bird table to take photos of them feeding. I only captured the squirrels eating the food, so not sure whether the birds were avoiding the food, or whether too small to trigger the camera. However the photos of the squirrel was very good, though to be honest I am fed up of rodents at the moment.
It would be good if there was some kind or remote control or monitoring of the camera, and the cover to batteries/controls seem a bit flimsy. But it fits a standard camera tripod fixture, as well as the cover have plenty of places to attach wire or similar to fit in place.
Overall I’m delighted with the device, and I hope to film many more examples or urban wildlife, once I have eliminated the rats.
Great little camera, works very well, would recommend it to anyone.
We wanted this camera to discover what was digging holes in the garden. Easy to set it up and secure it to a post. We were grateful to a previous reviewer who had advised on the height at which to fix it. Good clear photos of our foxy visitor! It was good to be able to see what time he called but needed a magnifying glass to read that!i Very pleased with our purchase.
I needed to see what was happening in our chicken run at nights and have been able to see rats and their nocturnal habits. Next step is to catch them.
Best of all was the shot of an owl staring straight into the lens.
Easy to use. Set the timer & interval so you don’t waste batteries. If security is not a problem, rig up a wire hook so it is easier to p[lace it and move it. The strap is fin for trees in the woods.
Note that for smaller subjects, that the field size for activation on the motion sensor is wider than the lens field of view so you can get blanks on small animals moving out of sight.
Image quality is good and if you set the timer correctly, the batteries seem to last a long time.
This is such an excellent camera. It is easy to use and playback. the buttons are on the underside of the camera and can be used by touch so as not to disturb the placement / test replay. Though I use it to ensure the welfare of my animals it has picked up voles. Excellent fun, trial and error camera. Would recommend to anyone just wanting to capture back garden activity!
This was on special when I bought it.
It is great, as it detects load of things that we never knew about before we fitted to our apple tree.
We have loads of pictures of our boat, ducks, moor hens, the wife (she keep walking past it). But we have other visitors, ranging from squirrels up to foxes (and the odd neighbour!).
Definitely of interest to even the non wildlife enthusiast.
Brilliant for the money. I have used it day and night taking stills and videos (and both) and have really enjoyed the results. Be aware of 2 things: if you place it too close to the ground you get a lot of white glare from the infrared; and the batteries last really well, but if you plan to take infrared video then you need to use both battery compartments and load them up with 8 batteries as 4 isn’t enough.
Mixed results, but this is operator error. I have learned not to place it too close to solid objects that can cause flare from the reflected infra red. Likewise , as with any camera, don’t point at a light source or window because that causes similar effect. Otherwise, it’s really quite good and simple to operate.
Has been a huge success. It is a bit fiddly to set up, but the pictures and videos are great quality and we have had lots of fun discovering all sorts of night visitors to the garden – including confirming our suspicions that it was a badger digging up under the apple tree. Batteries seem to last well.
